A digital site diary allows records to be held together and remotely viewable
GPL It is now clear that project managers, who require records to be held together in one place and remotely viewable from anywhere, can benefit from a mobile digital site diary application. Khaldon Evans, Script & Go’s International Marketing Manager for Site Diary, approached Paul Eckersley to answer a few questions on GPL Civil’s use of the app. Conversation highlights are reported here.
Paul explained that as GPL Civils Project Manager, he plans works up to 6 months ahead and that he is involved in writing construction programmes, liaising with the site teams daily, problem-solving, subcontractor liaison, tracking safety performance and managing commercial reporting.
He said that GPL Civils has successfully used the Site Diary app powered by Script & Go for various projects including, Airport City North – Jug Handle Spine Road and Airport City South – A538 Wilmslow Road Improvements in Manchester.
Paul also said GPL needed a digital site diary as, “there has always been a need for a modern diary app where records are stored and can be easily searched usually in the event of a contractual claim to be used as evidence.”
The principal reasons Paul gave for us choosing Site Diary, which he says is “a good stable app” are that it :
- “is a collaborative diary app that can be reviewed off site”
- “allowed us to track progress remotely and obtain reliable contemporary data entry that can easily be searched in the future”
He said we didn’t consider any other tools as he was aware of the work done with a major UK Tier 1 contractor. Paul revealed it’s changing the way GPL Civils works, as “it allows the engineers to make records (in real-time) on the fly rather than writing up at the end of the day” and “it is able to produce a good photo report.” The site diary application can be installed on a Windows PC and deployed on multi-OS devices, tablets or smartphones, for use by project site management personnel and site workers, in the office or in the field as needed.
