Design and Build firms often juggle site management, client communication, and daily reporting. Consequently, finding ways to save time can have a significant impact on productivity.
Shane Uppal recently spoke with Darren Lindley, Owner and Director of DSL Design & Build, about his experience using Site Diary. The discussion highlighted how a simple digital solution helped streamline daily site reporting and improve efficiency.
Managing Sites and Clients More Construction Efficiently
As Owner and Director of DSL Design & Build, Darren oversees the day-to-day management of building sites while also working closely with clients.
The company has successfully used Site Diary across several projects, including:
- 36 Fern St, Swanbourne WA
- 10 Swansea St, Swanbourne WA
Before adopting Site Diary, Darren relied on handwritten diaries to record daily site activities. However, he wanted a faster and more convenient way to capture information while moving between sites.
Why DSL Design & Build Chose Site Diary
Darren explained that he originally looked for an application that would eliminate the need to handwrite daily activities.
He also noted that the platform was initially free, which allowed him to trial the solution without risk.
As a result, Site Diary became an easy choice for the business.
Simpler Reporting from the Field
When discussing the benefits of the platform, Darren highlighted how much easier it made his daily routine.

"Each hour of the day for each gang is accounted for. Supervisors are more aware of when they are doing additional work or when there has been a change to the works. It highlights any issues to Site Management immediately so that we can discuss with the client."

In addition, he receives a weekly report that he can add directly into his database.
A More Efficient Way of Working
Since implementing Site Diary, Darren has changed the way he records site information.
According to him:
“It’s made me more efficient by not having to handwrite the daily activities in a diary.”
He also mentioned that he would consider a Gantt chart feature, although he felt that adding such functionality could increase the overall cost of the product.
Site Diary can be used on Windows PCs, smartphones, and tablets, allowing teams to capture and access information whether they are on site or in the office.
