GPL Civils monitoring progress with site diary

How GPL Civils Uses Site Diary for Better Project Visibility

Project managers often need access to site information without being physically present. As a result, a Site Diary can help teams stay connected while maintaining accurate project records.
Shane Uppal recently spoke with Paul Eckersley from GPL Civils about the company's experience using Site Diary. The conversation highlighted how the platform helps project teams monitor progress and access information remotely.

Managing Major Civil Engineering Projects

As Project Manager at GPL Civils, Paul plans works up to six months ahead. In addition, he writes construction programmes, liaises with site teams, coordinates subcontractors, tracks safety performance, and manages commercial reporting.

GPL Civils has successfully used Site Diary on major projects including Airport City North - Jug Handle Spine Road and Airport City South - A538 Wilmslow Road Improvements in Manchester.

Why GPL Civils Chose Site Diary

Paul explained that the company needed a modern diary solution where records could be stored and searched easily, particularly when information was required for contractual claims.

He described Site Diary as:

"A good stable app."

"It is a collaborative diary app that can be reviewed off site"

"It allowed us to track progress remotely and obtain reliable contemporary data entry that can easily be searched in the future."

GPL Civils did not consider alternative solutions because Paul was already familiar with Site Diary's work with a major UK Tier 1 contractor.

Real-Time Reporting and Remote Progress Tracking

Since adopting Site Diary, GPL Civils has improved the way engineers capture site information.

Paul explained that: "It allows the engineers to make records (in real-time) on the fly rather than writing up at the end of the day."

He also noted that the platform produces high-quality photo reports, making it easier to review site progress and project activity.

Site Diary can be used on Windows PCs, smartphones, and tablets, allowing project teams to access information both on site and in the office.
